The saying may go "life's a beach", but to us, beaches are life. From the flour-soft sand squishing through our toes to the warm, teal-tinged waters surrounding our skin, happiness knows no higher level. So when it comes to traveling the world's best beaches, you need to know where to start, and you want it to be good. Cue the 2017 Travel Hacker Guide.

Composed by travel search company, Kayak, and based on more than 1.5 billion annual searches, the guide sorts top destinations into five categories: trending, most popular, wallet-friendly, beach, and family. Naturally, we're most interested in the 'beach' category. While some of the results like Maui and Sydney weren't surprising, we were interested to learn that five of the top 10 are in Asia, and all of those five were on the list for the first time. The results are as follows:

1. Maui
2. Martinique
3. Guadeloupe
4. Phuket
5. Auckland
6. Bali
7. Colombo
8. Maldives
9. Okinawa
10. Sydney

Apparently greater accessibility to the South Pacific is what's fuelling interest in the area, and is ultimately what led to those destinations making the trending list. But while popularity has its perks, it can lead to inflation in prices — a trick that Kayak caught on to and offers advice on. The guide's "When to Book" feature includes personalized recommendations for more than 10,000 routes and 400 destinations, so you can enter your preferred origin and destination to receive customized insights on when to go, when to book and if you’re getting a deal. It's almost too easy, really, but then again life's a beach.
