We were crazy about it then and we're still crazy about it now. Singapore's food stall formerly known as Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle was the first in the world to receive a Michelin star, and now the stall's owner, Chan Hon Meng, is opening a location in Australia.
Yes, Aussie friends, you read that correctly. The new Hawker Chan location in Melbourne will be just as exceptional as the first, serving up a very similar menu, too. While the soy sauce chicken may be the most popular dish to date (it was the one that earned him the star), dishes like the wonton soup, seasonal vegetables, Thai-style tofu, and soy bean sprouts are sure to get just as much attention.
If you aren't drooling already, you will be by December 8, when the counter-service restaurant opens its doors at 157 Lonsdale Street. Even with the 92 seats available, there's sure to be a line up — just hopefully not hours long like the original, since the shop doesn't take reservations.
