Distance may make relationships harder, but apparently it can sometimes make vacationing easier. We know that sounds crazy, but trust us on this one.

Surprisingly, it’s cheaper to book a flight to Bali or Thailand this year than Ibiza or Menorca, according to TravelSupermarket. The travel site took factors such as flights, hotels, car rentals, and even travel insurance into account when coming up with this astonishing revelation. Some itineraries, like England to Phuket, Thailand, were discovered to be only a third the price of traveling to Menorca (insert overused “Phuket” pun here).

Emma Coulthurst, travel expert for TravelSupermarket, said: “People may think that their holiday budget can only stretch to the Med, that they can’t afford long-haul and that holidays are going to be more expensive this year due to volatile exchange rates. But the reality is holiday package prices are lower this year in some locations and there are bargains to be grabbed, which provide the opportunity to experience long haul lovelies for less.”

In fact, places like Bali and Thailand actually have lower costs-of-living as well. Emma continues to explain that "a three course meal in a mid-range restaurant in Bali or Thailand will only set you back around £7-8 ($9.06-10.36) and a pint of local beer about £1.20-1.60 ($1.55-2.07).” With prices like that, we might just move there permanently.
