China's usually not the first place that comes to mind when thinking about beach getaways. But a new hotel project is changing that by bringing attention to to the town of Sanya, aka the "Hawaii of China." just a short 1.5-hour flight from Hong Kong, the 'premier beach community' sits on the southern coast of Hainan Island and is a popular destination for 15 million vacationers from China and Russia – but remains relatively unknown in North America.
The luscious tropical beauty is now getting a major makeover from EDITION Hotels. The renowned global purveyor of unique luxury accommodations is set to make headlines by providing 5 acres of "private ocean" at their new property — the first of its kind in China and the largest in the world. Interestingly, it is illegal to swim in the sea under Chinese law, and this man-made ocean provides a solution for guests who insist on taking a dip. With a stunning view of the South China Sea in each of the 512 rooms, we'd understand the itch to dive right in. The private ocean will recycle 10 million gallons of seawater once every 32 hours, and serve to contain any pollution from human activity within the hotel grounds.
But that's not all; the full list of perks at Sanya EDITION also include 6 customized swimming pools, 21 stunning teak cabanas that glow and float above the water, 17 private villas equipped with mini-bars, 4 restaurants offering fine international cuisine, a design boutique offering commissioned pieces from over 180 artists, and – get this – an amusement park. Yes, an entire adult-oriented fun park named "Playland" will be part of the complex, featuring train rides, a rock climbing wall, electric car racing circuits, bumper cars, a movie theatre, dance floors, mini golf, water bikes, water motorcycles, sea scooters and more. By the sounds of it, you could stay here for weeks and never get bored.
But enough talk – we'll let these photos speak for themselves.
