Self-proclaimed foodie or not, what we like to eat can play a big part in where we decide to travel. Maybe the sweet and spicy, aromatic curries of Thailand are what you're after. Or maybe it's those ooey-gooey, golden crusts on French onion soup that bring you to Paris. Whatever your preference, there's a place for it, and one company has revealed exactly where it is.
Online catering marketplace, Caterwings, recently revealed a list of the top 100 best food cities around the world. Working in the food industry themselves, we can easily consider them experts on the subject, and their data shows no room for error, either.
Analyzing such factors as expert opinions, affordability for locals and visitors, diversity, vegetarian options, and even quality of street food, Caterwings came to the conclusion that San Sebastian, Spain is the number one spot. In fact, Spain took up two spots in the top 10, adding Madrid to the list as seventh best spot. As for the other countries, Japan, Singapore, France, Peru, the UK, and even the US had some highly-acclaimed cities, falling in second, fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth, and third, respectively.
“Whether you’ve always dreamed of trying percebes in San Sebastian or okonomiyaki in Osaka, this study is the ultimate foodie bucket list.” comments Manuel Queiroz, CEO of Caterwings in a press release. “Every delicious destination in this index can offer inspiration to food industry professionals such as ourselves, as well as burgeoning chefs, gastronomes and globetrotters.”
