You’ve spent the better part of the morning roving the streets of London when, all too suddenly, it sneaks up on you—that craving, that nagging feeling in the pit of your empty stomach. Perhaps you just left work for your lunch break, or maybe you’re visiting the city for a much-needed vacay. But you know it when it hits you…
You need a burger.
You need to sink your teeth into a juicy patty with a perfect meat-to-bun ratio and melt-in-your-mouth cheesy goodness. And you need to do it now.
Luckily for you, we here at VIVA have got your back. Below, you’ll find ten different versions of paradise in a bun waiting to be munched in England’s capital city. These burgers are not only beautiful to look at, providing you with all the Insta-worthy dissection shots you could hope for but will of course also serve to satisfy your deep-seated animal hunger. (Your mouth’s already watering, isn’t it?)
The Bill Murray – Lucky Chip
Mm-mm. You know it’s gonna be an awesome burger when it’s named after this SNL icon and actor extraordinaire… Long ago Lucky Chip established itself as one of the best burger makers in London, and if you get the chance to taste The Bill Murray', you’ll understand why. We recommend nabbing this burger at the Old Queen’s Head pub (the interior is Instagram perfection) but you can also snatch up a Lucky Chip burger at locations including Sebright Arms, Birthdays, and the Camden Assembly too.
"Dig It" – Patty & Bun
The queen of veggie burgers. The Portobello ‘Dig It’ Mushroom Burger at Patty & Bun is a big, hearty meal drizzled with parsley butter and cheese sauce, and loaded with coleslaw, lettuce, and braized field mushroom fritter. We dig it. If you’re more of a meat-loaded kind, then the ARI GOLD is sure to give you Instagram gold.
SmokeShack – Shake Shack
Shake Shack has its origins in NYC and has since established itself around the world, popping up in places like Japan, Russia, and of course, the UK. Shake Shack has a reputation for making ethical choices with regard to how their burgers are made and keeping involved in their local communities. With five fab burgers to choose from, the SmokeShack makes this list for its chopped cherry pepper and applewood smoked bacon. YUM.
K-Pop – Chick ‘n’ Sours
Why settle for just a burger when you can have a burger and fried chicken combined? Chick ‘n’ Sours massive K-Pop burger is stacked with Korean Fried Thigh, Gochujang Mayo, Chilli Vinegar and Asian ‘Slaw. It’s large enough that getting it into your mouth will be an experience unto itself, and for this fried chicken—it’s sooo worth it.
The California – Honest Burgers
While the Honest Burger itself gets much of the fame—and for good reason—The California is just as tasty, and even prettier to look at. Honest Burgers calls this deliciousness their take on the ultimate West Coat burger, “loved by Hollywood stars, top chefs, and burger lovers the world over.” So. Darn. Good.
Dirty Bacon – Dirty Burger
Dirty Burger is right up there with Honest Burgers when it comes to offering some of the most scrumptious, talked-about bunwiches in London. Just goes to show that it doesn't matter whether you're dirty or honest—if you've got the buns, you'll go straight to the top. We could have chosen any burger here, but we went with the Dirty Bacon burger because, well… bacon.
Fried Chicken AvoBun – Joe’s Southern Table and Bar
The AvoBun is easily the most Instagrammable burger on this list, and not only for its stunning green bun speckled with sesame seeds. This rare (and healthy) treat has only recently begun to pop up around London, and when it appears it doesn't stick around for very long. Check the online menu at Joe’s to make sure that you can catch this gluten-free piece of paradise before you stop by.
Dark Forest Hog’s Burger – Lazy Hunter
So—you’ve just made your way back home to London after a few days at the best beach in Europe, and though you have a rockin’ tan, you’re not entirely sick of charcoal buns just yet. If that’s the case, head over to Lazy Hunter and pick up a 'Dark Forest Hog’s Burger'. You can’t go wrong with roasted ‘slices of hog’, bacon, mushroom, chutney, chestnuts, and pickles. Instagram (black) gold.
The Devastator – Red Dog Saloon
A burger so monstrous and magnificent you won't be able to move once you've finished it, The Devastator is piled sky-high with pulled pork, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and Red Dog's special sauce and boy is it good. This baby is an adventure all on its own. 8 inches high. 3000 calories. Pure carnal pleasure. Gimme.
Cool Joe, Mean Joe, Killer Joe – Meat and Shake
Loaded with beef, lamb, and more beef, this mouthwatering masterpiece was a proud winner at the National Burger Awards 2017. It’s juicy, it’s decadent, and it’s best enjoyed while listening to the one and only Quincy Jones. If you're looking for another scene-stealer for Insta, also check out Meat and Shake's Smoking Bandit, which is presented in a smoky fog beneath its plate cover.
