If you're the type who likes complaining about gentrification, overpriced coffee and hipsters clogging up Brooklyn, you might want to stop reading now. If you don't, you'll be pretty stoked to know that you can now get your hands on America's most expensive cup of coffee in newly opened Extraction Lab.
The coffee shop has come to Industry City in Sunset Park, mostly as the headquarters of fancy coffee machine makers Alpha Dominche, but also to one-up California's Equator, previous home to the most-expensive cup ($16). Now that that's clarified you're probably wanting more details about Brooklyn's newest java joint. Well, the coffee there costs up to $18, thanks to a super high-grade version of the Ethiopian Arabica bean. And the showroom it's all housed in not only offers a rotation of select coffees each month, but also showcases over 50 types of tea.
It's fair to say that Extraction Lab doesn't do things by halves. But it does do things stylishly – the shop's aesthetics are very on point: Apple iPads throughout to provide a digital menu, plus all the airy warehouse vibes you'd expect from Brooklyn. So, if you fancy a cup of joe that costs more than a meal, now's your chance: Extraction Lab is open weekdays from 8am to 4pm.
