When in Rome, there are some things that just need to be on your bucket list: the Colosseum, the Vatican, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain. Another undeniable must-do is to scoot round on the back of a Vespa à la Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday–and now the city of Rome is making that last item so much easier to check off.

The Transit Minister has announced a new scooter-sharing program for the Eternal City, with 240 of these vehicles already introduced to various stations around town. With more fleets expected to hit the streets in 2018, the system will function much like the bike-share programs of New York and London, and will require downloading the eCooltra app to search for and book scooters for 24 cents a minute.

And for anyone concerned with the safety or sustainability of these vehicles, rest assured knowing that each set of wheels are equipped with two helmets, and are also electrically-powered and produce zero emissions. It's important to note however, that visitors will need to obtain an International Driver’s License before they're allowed to jump on these bad boys. So next time you're in Rome... do as the Romans do.
