The exterior of The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui

A trip to Koh Samui in Thailand's southern region is, put quite simply, like a trip to paradise. One of the country's largest islands and situated in the Gulf of Thailand, the picturesque place is packed with coconut groves, palm-fringed beaches, and mountainous rainforests. Luckily for us, the island also plays home to numerous luxury resorts, most of which are just as beautiful to look at as the island itself.

The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui is the latest luxurious addition to the island, with its 175 suites and pool villas, a spa village, and even a one-of-a-kind swim reef. Built with natural materials to emulate its surroundings, the gorgeous retreat is nestled amid 58 acres that used to be a coconut plantation, and overlooks the surreal cerulean waters of the Gulf.

But let's dive into that spa village, shall we? The Ritz-Carlton boast a pool, health bar, yoga pavilion, three massage pavilions, eight treatment suites, and — get this — a Muay Thai Gym complete with an indoor kickboxing ring and trained instructors. The latter is part of the resort's efforts to focus on local culture, where guests can try the famous sport, take a trip to a local market, or participate in a delicious cooking class.

As for the swim reef, it's the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, and offers as much snorkeling and fish-feeding as your heart desires. Complete with two white sand beaches, a relaxing beach-side pool, a water sports center, and two tennis courts, there's certainly no shortage of activities to take part in.

If lazing about on heavenly beaches, living in luxury, and exploring local cultural sounds like something you're interested in (and you'd have to be crazy not to), check out The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui's website for rates and special offers.
