Spanning more than six million acres, the Adirondacks are home to the largest protected natural area in the country, as well as boasting one of its longest fall foliage seasons. If you fancy taking a trip during fall, this startup company will give you access to a part of the region that's totally off-limits to passenger traffic.

Revolution Rail Co. offers two-hour rail bike tours across a 6 mile stretch of the region, through the beautiful Adirondack forest canopy along the banks of the Hudson River, and then over the Hudson on a spectacular trestle bridge.

Visitors can choose a two-seater, which costs $70, or four-seater, which costs $130. The rail bike tours are scheduled to continue through Oct. 31. For more information, you can visit the Revolution Rail Co. website.
