If you're looking to get a little star-struck while camping under the night skies this summer, there is one state in the United States that you should definitely head to. Utah's Antelope Island Park has just been chosen as the newest International Dark Sky Park, officially making it the best new spot for stargazing.
For those who have never heard of the International Dark Sky Park designation, it is a privileged honor reserved for the world's top star-watching spots. Officially, it is bestowed on lands with an “exceptional or distinguished quality of starry nights, and a nocturnal environment that is specifically protected for its scientific, natural, educational, cultural heritage and/or public enjoyment.”
Utah is already home to eight other IDSPs, making this the ninth park in the state. Only an hour drive away from Salt Lake City, Antelope Island is also famous for its bison herds and stunning back country trails. The largest island located within the Great Salt Lake, there is no shortage of natural beauty to be found here – in the skies as well as below the skies.
