It's no secret that Vancouver is home to one of the best craft scenes in the country: craft breweries are popping up by the dozen, while there's no shortage of local roasteries and distilleries appearing alongside tiny taquerias. Taking place from January 20 to February 5, Tourism Vancouver's Dine Out Vancouver Festival highlights the best of these alongside renowned establishments with a full 17 days of unique culinary experiences and guided adventures. Just be aware that tickets for these tours tend to sell out quickly, so grab yours sooner rather than later.
Here are our top five tours for 2017, featuring some of the classics as well as a couple newcomers that promise to get you buzzed:
Vancouver Coffee Tour
Dates: January 21, 29 | February 5
Time: 10 am - 1 pm
Why you should go: Designed for coffee lovers and snobs alike, the Vancouver Coffee Tour will introduce you to the nuances behind three very different types of joe: filter coffee (through a cupping session), cold brew and espresso. Not only will you get to try them all but you'll also get expert tips that you can take home with you (along with a new sense of snobbery, thanks to a partnership with the Vancouver Coffee Snob).
Vancouver's Best Roasting, Coffee & Beer Tour
Dates: January 22, 28 | February 4
Time: 10 am - 1 pm
Why you should go: This tour combines the best of coffee (see above) with one of our other most favorite things: beer. Hosted by Canadian Craft Tours, it kicks off with an introduction to the coffee roasting process, followed by an espresso tasting session before ending with a winter-ale themed brewery tour at its final (secret) location.
Craft Beer & Tacos Brewery Tour
Dates: January 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28 | February 2, 3, 4
Time: 4 pm - 7:30 pm
Why you should go: Because, beer and tacos. Now in their 4th year with Dine Out Vancouver, this tour with Vancouver Brewery Tours is sure to satisfy your thirst for delicious things with a trip to Big Rock Urban Brewery and Strathcona Beer Co. before enjoying even MORE beer (plus tacos, obviously) at Tacofino Gastown.
Discover Railtown Culinary Tour
Dates: January 25, 26, 27 | February 1, 2, 3
Time: 4pm - 6pm
Why you should go: Railtown is quickly becoming one of the hottest neighborhoods in town (it's a tiny design district wedged between Gastown and Chinatown, fyi), so we had to include this tour. Presented by Off the Eaten Track (what a name!), this tour visits four local eateries and even includes a hands-on cooking lesson. Did someone say authentic pizza dough?
Secret Supper Soiree
Dates: January 20, 21, 27, 28 | February 4
Time: Friday: 7:00pm, departures | Saturday: 6:00pm departures
Why you should go: Easily the classiest expedition on this list, this frequently sold-out culinary road trip from Swallow Tail Culinary Adventures whisks you off to several secret locations on your own private 1930's trolley. With a speakeasy theme, 1930's attire or fancy dress is highly encouraged as you explore the city's culinary secrets.
