Finally, there's a silver lining to all the gloomy, rainy weather that's been pelting down on Vancouver of late. Canada's premier ski destination, Whistler Mountain, has opened for business today, one day ahead of schedule thanks to recent cold temperatures and this week's natural snowfall.

A promising sign for the season to come, skiers and snowboarders were able to access Whistler Mountain via the Whistler Village Gondola or Creekside Gondola from 8.30am until 2pm. Jolly Green Giant, Upper and Lower Ego Bowl, Upper Whiskey Jack, Upper Pony Trail, Lower Pony Trail, Papoose, Upper Bear Cub and Orange Peel were all open, but early season hazards still exist, restricting access to other runs.

Meanwhile, Blackcomb Mountain and the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola will open as scheduled tomorrow (November 24). The first groups will ride up at 8.30am, while the last is at 2pm, via the Excalibur Gondola, Excelerator Express, Wizard Express and Solar Coaster Express.

If you haven't already got your pass, special early season pricing is available for both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain on Wednesday and Thursday, with window rates for full-day adult lift tickets for $79CAD. Then from Friday and over the weekend, adult prices increase to $89CAD.
